Emily Aiyana
Emily Aiyana found her deep love of dance and performing arts in 2004 with her fire dance troupe, Merkabah Fire Hawaii. Dancing with the element of fire captured her heart and was the beginning of an ever evolving obsession of the movement arts and music. Emily performs at all types of events with Merkabah Fire Hawaii and Maui Belly Groove and is known for her dynamic choreographies and exquisite costume designs. Emily began studying Belly Dance in 2009 with Kajira Djoumahna’s BSBD (SGI) Tribal Style Format and received her L2 Teacher Certification with her in 2012. Belly Dance, along with fire dancing, was a key that unlocked a greater purpose and greater expression of self. It was a catalyst which propelled and inspired her to continue to train in numerous dance forms with many teachers. Emily completed Initiation in Rachel Brice’s 8 Elements program as well as Key of Diamonds at Zoe Jake’s DanceCraft University. She studies Classical, Contemporary and Fusion Belly Dance styles most intensively with Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle, and Andria Perkins as well as Classical Indian Dance with Sarala Dandekar. Emily performs with Maui Belly Groove, a multi-faceted Contemporary Belly dance troupe known for they’re intricate technique and elaborate finger cymbal patterns.

As Emily moves into the mastery of her own unique style she is currently developing a fusion of all her trainings and experience. Her unique stylizations can be seen through her performance as well as through her teaching. Teaching has become one of Emily’s greatest passions and feels that it is part of her life mission to share what she deeply loves with others. She describes dance as: “Dance has become a growing passion for me, its opened the door to greater self-connection, and has enabled me to embody my goddess self. I love that I can express through dance what I cannot express in words alone. I seek refuge in my originality and the power to reinvent myself. I envision a world where women feel empowered through sacred dance, and I can act as a catalyst for other dancers, as many great teachers have done for me.”
Emily taught Fire Fusion Belly Dance at Tribal Fest in Sebastopol, CA from 2013-2015. She currently teaches Tribal, Fire and Fusion Bellydance workshops and classes at various locations on Maui including Body Alive Yoga Studio, Maui Yoga Shala and in her home dance studio. Emily is also owner and creative designer at “ElegantTribalDesigns” providing custom headdress designs and costumery for dance and performance.
