Gourmet Chef Joshua Hyman

Joshua Hyman was born in 1983 in Santa Rosa California, in beautiful wine country Sonoma County. Grew up loving food with an interest in food starting very young before popular cooking shows . His mother taught him how to scramble and fry an egg by 6 years old. Loved to play sports and stay active as a child with many opportunities at his fingertips.

Joshua moved to Maui, HI. In 1998. Started high school in a new environment with his mother leaving all his friends and most his family in California.  Learning to make new friends finding a new love for the ocean and a passion for surfing he taught himself how to surf on a small size surfboard most experienced surfers only surfed.

Unable to finish high school having to drop out do to reasons that will remain unspoken, he had to get a job in order to pay rent. At 15, started washing dishes in a small local restaurant always asking to cook remained as a dishwasher. A year past started working in delis able to express his creative side through specialty sandwiches Josh moved up and into a restaurant by 19.

A little over a year later a Chef in Maui was willing to teach him and Joshua eager to learn quickly moved up to Sous Chef, creating dinner specials and managing employees. Soon after he took an opportunity at one of Maui’s top restaurants under an Amazing Chef, continuing to learn and grow as a line cook. With every and any ingredient the Islands had to offer at his disposal, he excelled at creating  new and inventive dishes, with eye appealing colors and plating styles with delicious flavor profiles to back up the wonderful  looking dishes.

In 2009, left the restaurant scene to do catering. Expanding his pallet and ability to cook in much larger scale of events while still keeping the quality and freshness in his food. Returning  to the restaurant scene to take an Executive Sous Chef position at another one of Maui’s most popular restaurants, to Run his Own Kitchen with his Executive Chef.

Going on to win Maui’s Best Lunch and putting out consistent quality dishes for locals and tourists alike. After 2 years, once again leaving the restaurant scene to start his Own Private Chef and Catering Business and spend more time with his new born son Anthony Bentzi Hyman.
